Personal Statement
Painting is my true passion and remains my life’s work.
I work in oils and pastels, producing realist depictions of a variety of subjects. I have been fortunate to maintain an art practice most of my life: when living in England and here at home, whilst raising a young family and now. Advancement has been achieved by consistent time at the easel and the challenges of teaching, all the while exhibiting in solo shows, group shows and competitions, in commercial galleries and in my own studio/gallery.
I was proprietor of art@wintergarden studio/gallery from 2004 to 2017 providing me with a fabulous studio space from which to work, teach, and exhibit. Running an annual program of 12 exhibitions a year with a strong local focus. Recently I have concentrated more on my own art practice and the teaching schedule.
Success has been achieved in several arenas including:
Finalist Shirley Hannan National Portrait Award 2020,
Gold Medallion Camberwell Rotary Art Show 1987,
Alice Bale Special Award 1989,
Hanging with The Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Mall Galleries London 1990,
Painting Sir Weary Dunlop for College of Surgeons 1991, 2 College Presidents 1990,2016
Thirteen solo exhibitions and participation in many shows both in Australia and the U.K.
Community involvement is an important part of my life with some recognition:
Paul Harris Fellow 2016 Rotary Club of Drysdale recognition for contribution through the arts delivering an annual mentorship programme since 2011 to year 11 students
Outstanding Woman of the Year Award 2012 Zonta Club of Geelong recognition for contribution through the arts to International Women’s Day Celebrations since 2005
Best Micro Business 2011 Geelong Advertiser Business Excellence Awards (1st arts based business to win this award)
